Surgical cure of plantar wart
Plantar warts
are the one, which is noticed in the plantar surface or sole of
the foot. Unlike other kind of warts, these warts grow inside the
foot thus causing pain in the foot region. Moist, sweaty feet can
predispose to infection by the wart virus. They can be picked up
in showers and around swimming pools. They are not highly contagious,
but being exposed in just the right situation will lead to the development
of the wart. Children who have plantar warts should not share their
shoes with other people. Young girls often share shoes with their
friends and this should be discouraged. The plantar wart can easily
be differential diagnosed from callous. The pinching of the growth
will cause pain if it is wart and painless, if it is a callous.
Plantar warts can spread virus continuously to the adjacent areas.
So the warts should be treated once it is formed to avoid the spread
of infection.
There are different
methods available for treating the warts. The drugs obtained from
the drug stores without prescription are not good enough to treat
this kind of warts because the medicaments available in the drug
stores found difficult to penetrate the thick skin on the bottom
of the foot. Burning the wart with acids, liquid nitrogen freezing,
laser surgery and cauterization are the various treatments available
for curing the plantar warts. All these methods found to cause recurrence
of the warts. Surgical excision showed more success rate compared
with these methods. The patient should take a minimum of 15 days
rest after surgical removal. Even after healing, the patients find
difficult when weight is applied on walking. Possibility of infection
or formation of the scar cannot be ruled out in this therapy. In
severe cases that haven't cleared with other therapies, the physician
may inject each wart with a medication called bleomycin, which kills
the virus. This medication is given systemically in higher doses
to treat some kinds of cancer.
