Easy ways for the treatment chronic bronchitisThe bronchitis is termed as chronic one, when the chronic cough produces excess amount of mucus or pus, wheezing, shortness of breath and may be present for at least for three months. The main etiology for this chronic bronchitis is continuous exposure to air pollutants and lung irritants and also cigarette smoking. The condition can easily be diagnosed by auscultation on the lung area, blood examination and culture of lung secretions. The health provider may prescribe antibiotics if they found that the bronchitis is having bacterial infection. He may suggest for Humidifier and an expectorant in the initial stages. The main drug therapy includes Bronchodilators (albuterol), cough suppressants, corticosteroids (20 to 40 mg of prednisone), expectorant medication ( 10 to 12 drops 3 times daily of potassium Iodide), Antibiotics for bacterial infection (250 mg to 500mg of penicillin or tetracycline for every 6 hrs for 10 days) and oxygen for hypoxia. In the treatment of chronic bronchitis, along with the drug medication, diet restriction, kicking off the habit of smoking and avoiding over exercise are the important precautionary measure to prevent the aggravating condition. Studies showed that complete cessation of the smoking by the patients of severe chronic bronchitis not only reduced the condition but also help in curing the bronchitis. In dietary restriction, the allergenic foods such as eggs, nuts, peanuts, soy etc., should be avoided. Food coloring, additives and preservatives should be eliminated in the food. Mucus producing foods such as banana, citrus, dairy and wheat should not be included in the regular diet. Garlic helps to thin the mucus. Vitamin C (250 to 500 mg two times per day), zinc (30 mg per day), and beta-carotene (50,000 to 100,000 IU per day) may also being included daily to improve the immune system. N-Acetyl cysteine @ 200mg twice a day helps to repair the damaged lung tissue.
