Easy ways for treating bad breath
The best way
to treat bad breath is through regular brushing the teeth, gums
and tongue regular flossing, and rinsing with Listerine. Mouthwash
and breath mints are only temporary solutions. Regular check-ups
to correct problem areas: gum disease, carious teeth, faulty restorations,
overhanging fillings, leaking crowns, all of which cause food traps.
The odor of periodontal disease is particularly common cause of
halitosis which can be easily treated. Chew sugarless gum or suck
on sugarless lozenges to increase saliva flow. Saliva is the mouths
natural mouthwash; it has antibiotic elements it can reduce the
numbers of bacteria in the mouth. Hold the water in the mouth as
long as possible-minimum of twenty seconds, and swish it around
to loosen food particles and other bits of debris that bacteria
feed upon.
The longer the
water remains in the mouth the better. Some common treatments for
bad breath have been through the use of mouthwashes, mints, and
gums to cover up odors, but they have not been effective in treating
halitosis. Some of these remedies can actually worsen a bad breath
condition. Visit
your dentist at least every six months for cleanings and checkups
to keep your mouth free of plaque buildup and other problems that
may lead to bad breath. Try to breathe through your nose. Breathing
through your mouth can lead to having a dry mouth, which creates
a breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria. Keep a regular log
of your eating habits and medications, as these can cause bad breath.
Share the log
with your dentist. Brush your teeth and tongue twice a day to remove
food particles and plaque, and floss between teeth once a day, preferably
in the evening after you eat. Try using a fluoride mouth rinse with
antiseptic ingredients and a pleasant mint flavor. This helps to
protect your teeth, and the flavor masks odor problems. Consider
internal breath fresheners such as over-the-counter pills
you take before or after a meal to aid the prevention of malodorous
breath or go the natural route and munch on some parsley after
a meal. The important thing in getting fresh breath is removing
odor-causing bacteria. If this fails, see a specialist.
