Medicines used for curing ADD
ADD is the Attention
deficit Disorder with symptoms of ADD inattentiveness, impulsivity,
and hyperactivity. These symptoms can be treated with some allopathic
medications available in the market. These allopathic medications
are stimulant drugs. There is every chance for a person to become
additive to these medications if they are using these medications
without having ADD. Hence diagnose of ADD should be proper before
the person is allowed to use these medications. Medications such
as Ritalin, Adderall, and Concerta are used in treating patients
with Attention Deficit Disorders. Ritalin is a more powerful stimulant
drug and if used in children it has the same effect as cocaine in
adults. Ritalin will be effective for four hours for the time it
is used and it peaks at 2 hours after using it. There are tablets
that release Ritalin gradually and these tablets are effective for
8 hours.
Adderall is
a widely used medication for the treatment of ADD. It is better
than Ritalin since it has less peaks and valleys. It is approved
for unrestricted use in the treatment of Attention Deficit Disorder.
Adderall has four drugs from the amphetamine family in it. This
combination of drugs makes it more effective then Ritalin and it
covers a broad spectrum. Adderall lasts for 6 hours per dose. It
is found that Adderall is better than Ritalin for being less harsh.
Concerta is another medication that is new for treating Attention
Deficit Disorder. Concerta is found to be effective for 12 hours
per dose and is a reformulation of Ritalin. Concerta contains the
same chemical found in Ritalin. Unlike Ritalin it provides more
even action when used. The advantage of Concerta is that the children
using it need not have an extra dose during school hours. Children
with digestive problems and gastrointestinal narrowing should not
use Concerta. It is not recommended for children below 6 years of
age. Side effects like headache, vomiting, dizziness and loss of
appetite are found in all the above allopathic medications.
