Simple ADD Treatment
ADD being the
Attention Deficit Disorder is found in both children and adults.
A person has to watch out for the symptoms of ADD carefully before
going for any medication for ADD. It is found that 10 to 20 percent
of the student population receives medication for these disorders.
The popular medications that are used for treating ADD are Ritalin,
Adderall, and Concerta. Ritalin is methylphenidate and Adderall
is amphetamine. These medications are prescribed medications that
have to be bought under the prescription of a medical practitioner.
There are still arguments going on with some people not accepting
ADD as a disease and they accept it as a personality type of a person
or a child. There is a possibility to misdiagnose the symptoms of
ADD and hence special care should be taken to diagnose the child
or adult of having Add.
The medications
like Ritalin, Adderall, and Concerta are effective for a short term
only and these are found to be helpful in 60 to 80 percent of the
cases in reducing the symptoms of Attention Deficit Disorder. The
benefits of these medications should be weighed and then only treatment
should be given. Using these medications controls the hyperactivity
better and improves the focus of the child or the adult. Upon using
these medications they would find it easy to concentrate on one
task and complete the task before jumping to another task. Ritalin
is a stimulant drug and it affects children in the same way that
Cocaine affects adults. Headaches, abdominal pain, nervousness,
insomnia, dizziness, cardiac arrhythmia and weight loss are the
side effects of using Ritalin. It is not advisable to use this medication
in children below the age of six. Similar side effects are also
found in using Adderall and Concerta. Hence it is advisable to think
twice before using such medications.
